JAINSINDIA TRUST as a Religious Charitable Trust which has been established by Shri N. Sugalchand Jain, renowned entrepreneur and philanthropist to propagate Jainism, especially, the way of life, philosophy literature and architecture etc.

Shri Jain believes that the members of the Jain community have the potential to contribute a great deal to the growth of the nation and the world and should be provided with the opportunity to do so irrespective of their economic status. As a part of this all encompassing cause, the Trust will also reach out to all sects of the Jain community, especially the poor, needy and the uncared for fringes.

There is a general feeling that the Jain community, as a whole, is quite well off. But in truth, quite a number of them are indigent and yet do not seek others' help. The Trust will go all forthcoming when it comes to seeking financial assistance even under dire circumstances. So all of us have to reach out, identify potential beneficiaries and ensure that they get all vital assistance so that they come up in life like their more fortunate brethren.

Beginning with a single annual award, today there are four annual awards for Excellence in Human Endeavour in the fields of

1. Non-violence and Vegetarianism

2. Education

3. Medicine

4. Community and Social services

These awards carry a cash component of Rs.10 Lacs each, a commendatory citation and a memento. Nominations for the awards are invited from all over the country through advertisements in national newspapers, in English and Regional languages and through letters addressed to leading public figures in the fields of politics, public administration, civil service, education and the like. Copies of the advertisement as also the copy of the letters addressed to various prospective sponsors are available in the Foundation’s Website. Sue-motto, nominations are also accepted ,though self nominations are rejected. These nominations are initially short listed in terms of the guidelines prescribed for the purpose and frivolous nominations are weeded out. The response to our request for nomination is very heart warming. Judged by the increase in the nomination received for the award over the years, the Foundation feels justified in its initiative for recognizing these individuals and institutions engaged in serving their fellowmen.

The prospective awardees are subjected to special evaluation by the representatives of the Trust. The awards are finalized and decided by a selection Jury of eminent personalities headed at present by Justice Shri M. N. Venkatachaliah.
